Pupils in our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) class are assessed against Development Matters. When ready, Year 1 pupils begin to follow the lower primary curriculum. At the end of EYFS, pupils’ results are summarised and recorded on the EYFS Profile, which is shared with parents.
In Key Stages 1 to 3, pupils are assessed using end of unit outcomes for each topic within the foundation subjects. These outcomes consist of a series of statements aligned with the subject’s overarching progressive framework, designed to build knowledge and skills over time. At the end of each unit, teachers make a holistic judgement based on all the outcomes for that specific topic. Judgements are recorded as:
Working Towards
Met
Exceeding
These judgements are informed by a range of assessment strategies, including:
Assessment of pupils’ prior knowledge and post-unit understanding
Practical evidence, such as photographic records and classroom work
Live feedback and Assessment for Learning (AfL) strategies, including questioning and discussion
Tracking progress against end of unit outcomes
Monitoring activities, such as classroom visits and pupil voice
This approach ensures that assessment is meaningful, consistent, and supports progression across the curriculum.
Pupils in our ASPIRE classes are assessed against our bespoke ASPIRE framework. This incorporates a range of assessment tools, including: Steps in Learning, the AET Framework, Occupational Therapy input, and Speech and Language Therapy assessments.
Pupils in Key Stage 4 will be set a qualification pathway based on their Year 8 attainment. These include accredited courses, and pupils are assessed according to the criteria set out in the relevant qualification specifications.
All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), which outlines individual objectives and milestones. This is a live document, regularly reviewed and updated as milestones are achieved. Key successes are shared with parents throughout the year, and an annual review meeting is held to discuss progress and next steps in detail.
