Abbey Hill School & Performing Arts College

Welcome to Abbey Hill School & Performing Arts College,

I am delighted to be introducing myself as the new Headteacher.

Since my appointment I have had the opportunity to visit the school on several occasions, where I have been overwhelmed by the warm welcome from both staff and pupils. As you can imagine, my first few weeks will be spent getting to know the school, its pupils and staff. However, it is already evident that there is a dedicated staff team who want the very best for the pupils at Abbey Hill.

It is extremely important to me that the pupils at Abbey Hill School are happy and are placed at the heart of everything we do. At Abbey Hill School, we recognise that every child is unique, and we celebrate each individual’s success in the most meaningful way for that child.

For those of you who don’t know, we have a stunning purpose-built building which we moved to in September 2014 – which is well worth a visit! As well as being a designated Performing Arts College, we have a second specialism in SEN and Inclusion (Communication and Interaction).

I have high aspirations for our school and I am determined to build on its current success. One of my main aims is to continue to work towards becoming an outstanding school, where all aspects of the school are great! There will be a number of developments over the year, but already we have begun to introduce a new curriculum for learners at FE focussing on ‘Adulthood’ and ‘Employability’, and new teachers have been appointed.

My vision for the school is one of community; where the school builds relationships and works with local partners to ensure that all pupils enjoy their time at Abbey Hill School, make excellent progress, and leave the school feeling better prepared for everyday life. This is an exciting time for Abbey Hill, and I hope that you share this excitement and will support our drive to become a leading school.

A visit to the school is highly recommended. I look forward to meeting you.

Best Wishes

Ricky Porter
